THE VINTAGE STYLUS
OUR VINYL COLLECTION
Let's get this party started! We have a huge collection of party starters that never fail to get people up on their feet and tearing up the dance floor. It could be something classic like Michael Jackson or Earth Wind and Fire; Something with a bit of funk like James Brown or Stevie Wonder; Something rock and roll like The Beatles or The Rolling Stones; Or something a bit more modern like Beyonce, Daft Punk, or Rufus Du Sol. The 50s; The 60s; The 70s; The 80s; The 90s; The 2000s and beyond. It is totally up to you! I dare you to try and resist our party starters. Absolute bangers, every single one of them!
Get up offa that thing! Papa's got a brand new bag! Stay on the scene, like a sex machine! Jam! We've got a massive collection of records that goes deep for each of these key genres: Motown, Funk and Soul. These mid-tempo groove based jams are super versatile: perfect for warming things up over drinks and canapes, providing smooth soulful vibes over dinner, or even cooking with gas on the d-floor!
The Godfather of soul, hard working mister dynamite James Brown! Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Sly and the Family Stone, The Meters, Parliament/Funkadelic, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, anything on The Daptone Label, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Bill Withers, The Supremes, The Temptations, The JBs, The Headhunters, Herbie Hancock, Dr John, The Commodores, Rick James, and heaps more. If it's funky, we got it. Funk on soul brother!
Dust off those roller skates and meet us under the disco ball baby, it's time for a boogie wonderland! Disco started out in New York and Philadelphia discotheques and became a worldwide sensation in the 1970s. This was music made for dancing! Disco was a key influence in the development of electronic dance music and house music and in recent years there has been a revival of sorts in terms of disco and boogie music.
Let us take you back to the glitter and glam of Studio 54 with the likes of Donna Summer, Chic, Gwen McRae, Ashford and Simpson, KC and the Sunshine Band, Sister Sledge, Candi Stanton, Diana Ross, and seamlessly mix it with modern equivalents like Jamiroquai, Dimitri from Paris, and Daft Punk.
It is no secret that we love to get people dancing, and whilst we love all the classic and obscure jams from decades past, we also love to work in the best contemporary dance and electronic music. There are so many genres in dance music, way too many to mention here, but our collection runs deep and contains various genres like house, italo, electro pop, synth pop, new-wave, krautrock, and nu-disco. In terms of artists, think Daft Punk, LCD Soundsystem, Pnau, Bag Raiders, Rufus Du Sol, Flight Facilities, The Presets, Todd Terje, Claptone, Hot Chip, Soulwax Remixes, Cut Copy, Mylo, Fourtet, Caribou, Bicep, Crazy P, Calvin Harris, Mark Ronson etc.
Hip hop as both a musical genre and a culture was formed during the 1970s when block parties became increasingly popular in New York City, particularly among African-American youth residing in the Bronx. Pioneered by cats like DJ Kool Herc, Afrika Bambaataa, and Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, this is hop hop and it don't stop!
In terms of artists, think De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Arrested Development, Jurassic Five, Beastie Boys, early Kanye West, Common, The Roots, Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre, Notorious BIG, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Warren G, Kurtis Blow, Grandmaster Flash, Sugarhill Gang, Jay Z, Montell Jordan etc.
